Mrs. Leonora Kosakowski of 27 Davis Street announced the engagement of her daughter, Veronica Elinor, to Edward J. Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bassett of 6 Wright Street. The wedding will take place June 1 in Sacred Heart Church.

Easthampton, June 3 - Miss Veronica Eleanor Kosakowski, daughter of Mrs. Leonora Kosakowski of 27 Davis Street, and Edward J. Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Bassett of 6 Wright Street, were married Sunday at Sacred Heart Church. Reverend John Aubertin officiated. Mrs. Victoria Morey, organist, played, and Joseph Baldyga sang.
Miss Theresa Thibault, niece of the bride, was maid of honor, and Chester J. Bassett was best man for his brother. The bride who was given in marriage by her brother, Alphonse Kosakowksi, was escorted to the altar by members of the Children of Mary Sodality, the Daughters of the PRCU and the junior choir.
Upon their return from a trip to Canada, Niagara Falls and New Hampshire, Mr. and Mrs. Bassett will make their home at 27 Davis Street.

Edward J. Bassett, 72, a retired 36-year general foreman at the former Chicopee plant of the Uniroyal Tire Company, died Wednesday in The Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton. He retired in the early 1980's. He was born in Amherst, and attended schools there. He lived here since 1947. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran and served in northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Bronze Star and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant in 1945. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and belonged to its St. Anthony's Society and St. Cecilia Choir. He was a member of the American Legion Post 224 here, the Chicopee Elks No. 1849, the American Association of Retired Persons, and was a stockholder of the local Pulaski Club. He leaves his wife, the former Veronica E. Kosakowski; a son Thomas E. of Southampton, a daughter, Nancy A. Koloski of the Florence section of Northampton; a brother, Chester of Easthampton, and three grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday morning at Mitchell Funeral Home and in the church, with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the St. Cecilia Choir, both at 33 Knipfer Avenue, Easthampton, 01027.
