John S. Bass
John S. Bass, an old citizen of Lynchburg, died suddenly on Thursday last, while riding on horseback to visit his one and daughter in Appomattox county. He was in company with his brother-in-law, John C. Moore, at the time of his death. Mr. Bass fell from his horse when within a short distance of his destination, but through the exertions of Mr. Moore he was soon reseated, and proceeded on his journey. They had ridden only about twenty yards, however,, when Mr. Bass fell dead in the arms of his brother-in-law. The cause of his sudden death is supposed to have been either apoplexy or heart disease. He was in unusually good health at the time of starting.
