Norma Louise (Bassett) McKenney (1928-2004)

MADISON - Norma L. McKenney, 76, died at her home Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 12, 1928 in Madison, the daughter of Elwood and Lucille (Pierpont) Bassett.
She was married Sept. 11, 1948, in Madison to Elwin A. McKenney.
She had been employed at Anson Stick Mill, retiring in 1993.
Norma had a wonderful sense of humor and never lacked a funny story or a joke to tell. No task was too big or too small for her to tackle. She especially enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.
Her husband of 55 years; two brothers, William and Robert Bassett; and a sister, Colleen Parlin, died previously.
She is survived by a son, Richard Bassett and his wife, Beverly, of North Anson; three daughters, Cheryl McKenney of San Jose, Calif., Linda Thomas and her husband, Aaron, of Madison, and Jan Paine and her husband, Jeff Sr., of Madison; grandchildren Michelle Wood, Lori Goodwin, Jamie Winn, Jeremy Paine, Brandon Cates, Jeff Paine Jr., and Jenne Paine; great-grandchildren Victoria Wood, Adam Goodwin, Ryan Goodwin, Ricky Winn, Zack Paine, Spencer Paine, Coleman Paine, Nach Cates, Mitch Cates and McKay Thomas; several nieces and nephews; and special neighbors Raphael Grant and Jana Kitchin.
In accordance with Norma's wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to HealthReach Hospice, P.O. Box 829, Waterville, ME 04901. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
