Emma and George went to Woodstock, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, when she
was 18. George and her infant son died of typhoid fever and she went to a
brother in New York then to a brother in Alabama. She married her second and
third husbands in Alabama. Carl was a cabinet maker. After the town of
Gainesville, Alabama, burned, they left and went to Austin, Travis County,
Texas. He owned a cabinet and furniture business there, served for Texas in
the Civil War. Emma established the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at St.
David's Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas. One son became a city councilman
and another became chief of police (1920's). Most of the family members are
buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Travis County, Texas.
