Sammie Lee Bass Sr, also known as "Bae" departed this life on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at his home in Effingham, SC. He was born in Florence on September 22, 1945, to the late Saul and Mamie Long Bass.
Sammie received his education at Wilson High School.
He was a police officer in Florida. He then began working at Lazy Boy in Florence and retired after 25+ years of service. He later worked part-time at Winn-Dixie because he got bored.
Sammie was a very independent man. He believed strongly in the scripture and loved 2 Thessalonians 3:10, ?For even when we were with you, this we
commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.? He was a giver. He loved to laugh and joke. Bae never met a stranger. He would always voice his opinion, he was strong-willed and he would always stand on what he believed to be the truth. In doing so, he would always reference God's word. He was a man who loved the Lord. Sammie loved to joke and he loved to laugh. He was the life of the party. He would go and see about everyone. He was a caregiver to many and would give his last to anyone in need.
Sammie Lee Bass, Sr was preceded in death by his son, Sammie Lee Bass, Jr. (2010); his sister, Minnie Lee Bass Cox, and four brothers, Saul Bass Jr, Leon (Viola) Bass, Paul (Jannie Mae) Bass and Billie (Jannie)Bass.
He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life, his living children: Angie (Tracey) Simmons and Billy Bass. He was also known as "Papa" or "Grand Da" by his four grandchildren, Javonte', Jailan, and Jonathan Bass, and his little princess Kristina Fulton; sister in law, Lulamae (Joe) Felder and brothers-in-law, Paul (Willemae) Johnson, Eddie Johnson, and Robert Johnson Jr. He also had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special relatives and friends.
We give special accolades to Mildred Gaskins, also known as "Miteye" but better known as "Mit" The mother of his children. She sacrificed a lot as well to assist his children in caring for him and his needs during his last days and we know that he truly appreciated that.
