AUBURN ? Loann L. Bassett, age 83, of Auburn peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Park Place Senior Living Memory Care Unit in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Bassett was born on September 22, 1933 in Fort Wayne to Forrest and Lillian (Ewing) Hollopeter. She attended the Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Muncie. She went on to earn her B.S. from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
She married Charles Bassett on August 27, 1955 in Fort Wayne. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2011.
Mrs. Bassett worked as an RN for a total of 41 years at Parkview Hospital, LaGrange Hospital, Rochester Hospital and DeKalb Memorial Hospital.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Auburn. She enjoyed making crafts for church bazaars and she also enjoyed doing missions work through the church in Africa and Jamaica. She was also a member and past president of the Auburn Garden Club, the DeKalb County Homemakers Extension and the American Cancer Society. She and her husband loved to travel.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Susan Bassett of Howe and Dean and Kim Lea Bassett of Shipshewana; daughter Lori Bassett and her partner, Laura DeWitt, of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; Kylee and Jack Hope, Kurt Bassett, Karen Bassett and Lucas Neuerburg; great-grandson Paxton Hope; sister and brother-in-law Myrna and Gerald Harkenrider of Tipp City, Ohio; brother David Holly of Fort Wayne; anhd several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral service from 10-11 a.m. Thursday morning at the church.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1203 East Seventh Street in Auburn. Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Dr. Jim Farrer.
Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
