- Harold E. Bassett
Harold Eugene Bassett of Hannibal died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital. He was 69.
Mr. Bassett was born December 2, 1931, in Marion County, Iowa, to George and Mary Elreta Loynachan Bassett. Several years after retiring from field management at the Maytag Corporation, he enjoyed diriving a school bus for the Hannibal schools. He also enjoyed many sporting activities. He was a member of Park United Methodist Church. He married Ethel Ann Hughes on February 5, 1955, in Attica, Iowa.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Park United Methodist Church in Hannibal. Services, conducted by the Reverend Jan Bond, will follow at 11 a.m.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mary Gaston of Muncie, Indiana; and Janet Hollandsworth of Columbia; a son, David Bassett of Columbia; three brothers, Kenneth Bassett of Winterset, Iowa; Marvin Bassett of Knoxville, Iowa; and Alvin Bassett of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Ruth Edwards of Chariton, Iowa; and Mary King of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and brother, John Bassett, died earlier.
