Alice went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Alice was born to Carl and Nellie (Naylor) Sparling at her parents home in Cass County south of Anita, Iowa on Januar 27, 1918. She was baptized and was a member of the Methodist Church in Casey and later joined the Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. She attended country school in Walnut Township, Adair County and went to graduate from Casey High School in 1935. Alice was married to Kenneth C. Thompson on January 4, 1936, they farmed and were the parents of three children, A. JoAnn Fett, K. Eddie Thompson, and Keith Dell Thompson who died in infancy. Alice worked at the Guthrie Center Hospital and then for Drs. Todd and Neff for 25 years. Alice married Harry Bassett on July 10, 1956, they moved to Guthrie Center and after retirement traveled. Surviving her are daughter JoAnn (Marvin) Fett, son K. Eddie Thompson, daughter Jeannie (Robert) Larson, and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Bassett, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nellie Sparling, her husband Harry F. Bassett, son Keith Dell Thompson, stepson Larry Bassett, grandson Ed Newland, Melissa Thompson, and two great-great-grandchildren Adam and Iris Ashby, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and hosts of friends. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center with burial immediately following at Canby Friends Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
