      Bassett, Charles W. ALBANY Charles W. Bassett, 87, of Delmar, passed away on February 22, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ithaca, N.Y. on November 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Howard W. and Helen Huff Bassett of Interlaken, N.Y. Upon high school graduation, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army. A World War II veteran with the rank of sergeant, he served in Korea with the U.S. Occupation Forces. Following graduation from Cornell University in 1952, he taught at Deposit Central School, Deposit, N.Y. and then was employed by New York Farm Bureau for 29 years. He was also a real estate agent for several years in the Albany area. Charles' hobbies included: gardening, fishing, construction and repair work. Charles was an active member of the Bethlehem Community Church, Delmar, for over 40 years and had served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and elder. He was a member of the Albany Chapter of Gideons International. Charles is survived by his twin sister, Frances (Edwin) Hostetter, Robert (Jeri) Bassett and Daniel (Muriel) Bassett. Also, survived by 15 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eldest brother, Howard (Helen) Bassett. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bessie (Betty) Louise Palmer. Also by his daughters, Linda L. (John) Mason of Tulsa, Okla., Teresa M. (Gary) Fish of Delmar; and by his sons, Charles E. Bassett of Gladstone, Mich., and Jonathan D. (Eve) Bassett of Ft. Collins, Colo. Also by 11 grandchildren, Charles' sons, Timothy and Troy Bassett; Jonathan's daughters, Palmer and Veronica Bassett; Linda's children, Michelle, Gregory, Michael and David Mason; Teresa's children, Elise, Michael and Markie Fish as well as five great-grandchildren. Charles dearly loved his family and will be remembered for his encouraging support of their gifts and talents, as well as his Godly teaching and wisdom, which will continue to live as it is passed from generation to generation. His family will deeply respect and love him always. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Bethlehem Community Church, 310 Elm Ave., Delmar, on March 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery family plot, in Interlaken, N.Y.
