Jessie M. (Bassett) Chapman
Jessie M. Chapman (Bassett) Flushing Formerly of Grand Ledge Jessie M. Chapman (Bassett), age 93 of Flushing, formerly of Grand Ledge, passed away March 25, 2013. She was born June 14, 1919 in Eaton County, MI, the daughter of John Henry and Alta E. (Grove) Crane. She was a 1936 graduate of Grand Ledge High School; former secretary in the State of Michigan Executive Office and State Tax Commission, when she quit to assume her role as mother, farm-wife, 4-H Leader and member of the 4-H Council. Later in life she became a secretary in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Eaton and Barry Counties. She was a life and 50 year member of Grand Ledge Chapter #14, Order of Eastern Star; trinity 50+ Club; member of MSU Extension Club and member of Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter Gloria Austin of Flushing, MI; sons Jon (Sue) Bassett, Sr. of Lansing, MI and Marc E. (Deborah) Basset of Castlewood, VA; step-daughters Kathryn Chapman and Kathleen Carter, both of Grand Ledge; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; niece Linda Grimwood of Mancelona, MI; several cousins, and brother-in-law Orace Chapman of Dimondale. She was preceded in death by husbands Milford Bassett and Burton "Dutch" Chapman, sister Grace Felzke, son-in-law Douglas Austin, and step-sons Larry Chapman and Robert Carter. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 - 11:00 a.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with interment following at Delta Center Cemetery, Delta Twp., Eaton Co. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with Eastern Stars services to begin at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the G.L. Chapter #14, O.E.S. or Eaton Community Palliative Care. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
