Man Drowns in Ohio River

HATFIELD ? A Labor Day outing on the Ohio River ended in tragedy with the drowning of a 21-year-old Gedonia Springs man.
Ronnie Bass drowned at about noon yesterday while swimming near French Island.
Witnesses told police Bass crawled out on a partially submerged log and then jumped into the water. He surfaced once and went under the water and did not reappear.
State police divers recovered his body about three hours later 30 feet from shore in 15 to 20 feet of water.
Bass? father, Charles, Drowned on Juily 4, 1972 when a fishing boat overturned in backwaters near Bullocktown.
Bass was a 1982 graduate of Boonville High School, where he was active in sports.
Surviving are sisters, Miss Barbara Bass, Miss Tammy Bass, LaDonna Bass, all of Boonville; a brother Charles Bass of Boonville; his stepmother, Mrs. Wanda Darlene Wilford of Boonville and his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Marie Bass of Degonia Springs, with whom he resided.
Services for Bass are scheduled for 2 in the afternoon Thursday at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, with burial in Degonia Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 tomorrow morning at the funeral home.
