Obituary
Mary F.E. Bassett
Waynesboro, Pennsylvania - Mary Frances Elkins Bassett, 73, of 13997 Gardner Avenue, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born January 11, 1924, in Henry, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Reverend O.E. and Ada Barbour Elkins. Her husband, Russell E. Bassett, died in 1975.
She was a 1940 graduate of Lumberport High School in Lumberport, West Virginia. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Liberty College in West Virginia, where she earned a secretarial degree.
She served as executive director of Waynesboro Chapter of the American Red Cross, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. She was also a member of Waynesboro Chapter of the American Red Cross.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda P. Bowers of Afton, Virginia; Frances C. Bassett and Mary Faith Kline, both of Waynesboro; two sons, Russell E. Bassett of Waynesboro and Allen A. Bassett of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; one sister, Audrey Reynolds of Lumberport; two brothers Denzil Elkins of Manassas, Virginia; and Allen Elkins of Woodbridge, Virginia; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Nada Allopenna.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Reverend Jay Zimmerman will officiate assisted by the Reverend Carl Butterbaugh. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Waynesboro Chapter of the American Red Cross, 96 West Main Street, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania 17268; or to the American Cancer Socety, 452 East King Street, Chambersburg, Pennslyvania 17201.
Arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
