John Bassett
BASSETT, John Paul, 89, of Richmond, passed away on May 21, 2017, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, William D. Bassett and Bessie Seigler of Connecticut. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Johnson Bassett. He was born in 1927 in Sharon, Conn. John graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of Chi Epsilon. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II and the Korean War. He was employed by VDOT for 35 years and retired as Assistant State Materials Engineer. John enjoyed the outdoors, golf and hunting. John is survived by his children, Nancy, John Jr., William and Susan Kish (Tom); and his beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Catherine and Caroline Bassett and Sarah Kish; his sisters, Dorothy B. Miller of Cape Cod, Mass., Jane B. Schmidt of Ocala, Fla., Barbara B. Bamber (deceased) and Phyllis B. Hansen (deceased); and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Va., on Friday, May 26, 2017, at 1 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Dr. Robert T. Turner for their care and support.
