Vander W. Bassett
Vander W. Bassett, resident of Louin, died at General Hospital in Laurel March 13 after an extended illness. At one time Mr. Bassett was a resident of Newton.
He was the son of the late A.G. and Mary Hickman Bassett, a carpenter by trade, and an employee of the G.M. & O. Railroad for many years. He held membership in the Louin Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Newton.
The funeral was conducted from Louin Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, March 15, with the Rev. Mr. Daniels and the Rev. Robert Moody officiating. The Masonic Lodge of Newton was in charge of burial rites. Interment was in Louin Cemetery.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nettie Bassett, Louin; three stepso0ns-Basil and Thomas Smith of Louin, Earl Smith of Montrose; four grandchildren; a brother, C.F. Bassett, Louin; six sisters, Mrs. Lillian Phillips of Meridian, Mrs. T.W. Blanton of Lena, Mrs. O.C. Siler of Hornsby, Tenn. and Louin, Mrs. G.I. Walker of Hickory, Mrs. George Vance of Louin, and Mrs. R.E. Dalton of Dallas, Texas.
