Mrs. Matthew Bassett and Mrs. William Bassett of Tarrytown-on-Hudson, were in the city yesterday.

Mrs. William L. Bassett Is Celebrating 90th Birthday
Tarrytown?s grand old lady (bu she?s chipper as she was 30 years ago) Mrs. William L. Bassett is today celebrating her 90th birthday at her residence, 21 Neperan Road, Tarrytown.
?Sure I feel fine because I take every day as it comes be it hor or cold. I?m thankful for the blessings that have been bestowed on me?, said Mrs. Bassett this morning.
Born In Nyack
Born Leticia Smith Williams at Nyack, N.Y., Mrs. Bassett has been a resident of Tarrytown for more than 70 years. She was the mother of three children, one of whom survives, Harry L. Bassett of Neperan Road.
As a young girl she often made trips to Tarrytown on the old ferry Rockland and it was while attending a Masonic picnic at the old Beekman Grove at the end of Howard Street, that she met Mr. Bassett. She was for a great many years a member of the Women?s Relief Corps, which was an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic and served in every chair. Her late husband with his brothers, the late Matthew Bassett, operated a restaurant in Orchard Street and later they went in partnership in the operation of an establishment known as ?The Office? which is located at Main Street.

Mrs. Bassett?s closest pal, Mrs. Jane Kelly, will not, however, be able to visit her today due to illness.
No special celebration is planned. Her son and his wife the former Mary McElwaint, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law will be on hand to offer congratulations.

Mrs. Bassett, Well Known Here, Dies
Mrs. Letitia S. Bassett, ninety-two, widow of William L. Bassett, a charter member of Sunnyside Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and oldest surviving member of the Women’s Relief Corps of Ward B. Burnett Post, Grand Army of the Republic, died this morning in her home, 21 Neperan Road.
Mrs. Bassett, a remarkably active woman for her advanced years, and known to hundreds throughout this area, had been about until a short time ago.
Funeral Sunday
Her body was removed to the Vanderbilt Funeral Home on Main Street, where friends may call after 10 a.m. tomorrow. Funeral services will be held there Sunday afternoon. The Reverend George J. Ammerman, pastor of the Second Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Besides her son, Harry L. Bassett of the home address, Mrs. Bassett leaves two grandchildren, William A. Bassett of Pocantico Hills and Mrs. Florence Frese of New Rochelle, and three great-grandsons. She leaves also one brother, Harry Williams of Nyack. Mrs. Bassett’s husband, died 28 years ago.
Born in Nyack, Mrs. Bassett was a daughter of the late William and Sarah Baldwin Williams. She came to Tarrytown 75 years ago and resided here ever since. Her husband, with his brother, the late Matthew Bassett, once ran the leading restaurant in the underhill section many years ago and they later operated “The Office” on Lower Main Street which was the leading tavern of its kind and gathering place of lawyers, judges, officials and businessmen for years.
Mrs. Bassett was an outstanding member in the Women’s Relief Corps and seldom over a great many years did she miss a Memorial Day observance with that unit. In addition to being active in the Order of the Eastern Star some years back, she was also active in the social affairs of Hope Hose Company.
