Edith Arlene Miller (1922 ? 2019)
Portland - Oct. 6, 1922 - Jan. 19, 2019 Edith A. Miller died peacefully with her grandchildren by her side, Jan. 19, 2019 in Portland. She was 96 years old. Edith was born Oct. 6, 1922 in Silverton, Ore., to Theodore Light and Florence Bassett Miller. Soon after, the family moved to the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland where she attended elementary school and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1941. In 1942, she attended Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School, Dept. of Nursing in 1947. She married her husband of 75 years, Owen G. Miller, MD, Sept. 10, 1943 in Portland. They settled in Salem in 1950 where Owen practiced dermatology for 30+ years and Edith was a homemaker. Together they raised two children. Edith loved her family and friends and spending time with them in her beach cabin in Pacific City, Ore. She was an avid swimmer. She loved to cook and entertain and spend time, lately, with her great-grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved brother, John H. Miller. She is survived by her husband, Owen; children, Owen Jr. (Kathleen) and Kathryn; grandchildren, Kylee (James) Miller-Joyner and Lance (Lauren) Miller; and great-grandchildren, Roan Owen and Ila Wren Joyner and W. Klute and Edith June Miller. A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m., March 9, 2019, at the Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home, 605 Commercial St., SE, Salem, OR. Donations may be made to the Salem Art Association Endowment Foundation, 600 Mission St. SE, Salem, OR 97302.
