Delores Marie (Bassett) Cowman
September 18, 1948 ? February 3, 2023
Delores Marie (Bassett) Cowman was born on September 18, 1948 to John Clarence and Betty Jean (Hoover) Bassett. Delores was the second of the Bassett?s seven children. She graduated from Van Meter High School with the class of 1966. Delores was united in marriage to Carl Lee Busch and to this union 3 daughters were born. Darbie Lynn, Amanda Marie and Jodie Jon, they later divorced. Delores met the love of her life, Gary Raymond Cowman, through mutual friends and were united in marriage on April 15, 1988 after 13 years of being together.
Following high school Delores entered the work field working for Farm Bureau and Employer?s Mutual Insurance companies before being hired by Knoxville Water Works on May 9, 1977. She retired after nearly 30 years of employment on January 26, 2007. She also served as a reserve police officer for the Knoxville Police Department for several years.
Delores and Gary were nearly inseparable and loved to visit with friends at coffee time, breakfast, or dinner at Mr. C?s, Beulah?s Café, Downtown Diner or Manny?s. They spent many nights at Prairie Meadows where she loved to play KENO, they spent hours sitting at the kitchen table, watching westerns, doing scratch offs or visiting with whichever kids or grandkids may have stopped by. They also loved to travel to Las Vegas to visit their Vegas Family, Fabian and Giselle and their children, grandchildren and extended family. She was an amazing cook and loved to have family dinners. Her greatest joy was her family, most especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their events. Delores was the most caring, unconditional loving, hard-working lady loved by so many in our community and beyond.
We take comfort knowing she was welcomed to heaven by those who preceded her in death. Her daughter, Amanda Johnson, parents, John and Betty Bassett, sister Marlene Alcorn, sisters in law Dale Marie Bassett, Linda Cowman and Vera Sparks, brothers in law Richard Houge and Richard Sparks along with a host of extended family members and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gary Cowman, daughters Darbie (Dominick), Jodie, Lory and Jenni (Alan), son Fabian (Giselle Mora) Difilippo. Grandchildren, Katie (Zach) Greene, Joey (Maddy) Utterback, Andrew VandeKamp, Kaden (Megan) Johnson, Matthew Lobberechet, Sydney (Chris) Lobberecht, Addie and Annie Busch, Bret Johnson, Brandon Rowley, Kelsey (Jake) Rowley, Jacqueline DeFilippo, Jessica (Jake) Difilippo, Jonathon Difilippo and Isabella Derringer. Great grandchildren, Henslee and Letty VandeKamp and their mother Natasha, Payton Johnson, Nathaniel, Jordan, Dominick, and Julian Difilippo. Sisters Debbie (Neil) Montz and Linda Houge. Brothers Bob (Valerie) Bassett, Jim (Betty) Bassett and John (Bobbi) Bassett. Sister in law, Dorothy (Roger) Carter and brother in law, Howard Cowman. Along with many other extended family members and friends.
A visitation for Delores will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Celebrate Community Church in Knoxville from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 10:30 A.M., also at Celebrate Community Church. Following services, burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knoxville or Clay Township Fire and Rescue or Panthers vs. Cancer to continue the fight against cancer in the community of Knoxville.
The Winfield Funeral Home is assisting Delores' family with services.
