James Malloy Bassett

Jim Bassett of Gustine passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 15 at his home in Gustine at the age of 84.
Jim was born James Malloy Bassett on May 27, 1938, to Noble (Charlie) and Edith (Ishie) Bassett in Modesto.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Angie.
He attended Orestimba High School and graduated in 1956. He worked at Simon Newman from the time he was 13 until the company sold in 1974. He married Angie Perry on December 4, 1960, at St. Joachim?s Catholic Church.
Jim was a farmer and rancher. He owned a cattle ranch with his brother-in-law and best friend, Joe Perry starting in 1978. In 1994, his son Steve joined the company. The cattle company, Perry Bassett Cattle, was fondly known as ?The Corp.? Jim was happiest when he was riding the range, working cattle, and doing anything ?In the Hills.? He was also grandpa to many grand puppies and constantly surrounded by the family?s dogs.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherri Marsigli (Bill) and Lori Branco (Vern) and son Steve Bassett (Cammy); six grandsons, one granddaughter; 3 great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law and their wives; three step grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren.
