Timothy Sherrod Bassett
Timothy Sherrod Bassett ASHEVILLE, NC - Timothy Sherrod Bassett, 69, died very unexpectedly on September 2, 2014 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born on November 29, 1944 in Thomasville, Georgia to Henry Burt Bassett and Margaret Louise Bassett, both deceased. Tim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marie; daughters, Stacey Vail (Stephen) and Stephanie Brooks (Mike); brothers, Burt Bassett (Katie), Jeff Bassett (Karen) and Jonathon Bassett (Sonya); grandchildren, Courtney, Cameron and Catherine Vail and Abigail Brooks; many nieces, nephews and friends. Tim graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina where he was an active student member as well as alumnus of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He proudly served in the US Naval Reserve from which he retired as a Commander after 20 years of service. Tim was a member of the Ocala Silver Spokes Rotary Club. He was an avid golfer with both his group here in Ocala and in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. He enjoyed escaping the summer heat for the mountains of North Carolina. He also loved to travel, spend time with family and friends and work in the yard. Tim was a wonderful and loving husband, father and Granddaddy. He will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services on Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, Florida. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm with the service following at 12:30 pm. Military graveside services will take place immediately after the service at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tim Bassett Scholarship Fund at 296 Brooks Road, Brooks, Georgia 30205. The scholarship will benefit undergraduate members of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. A donation to the charity of your choise is also greatly appreciated.
