Travis Wayne Bass
Travis Wayne Bass, 86, (39 forever), a man who built his life around integrity, respect and hard work, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2019 in Tucson, Arizona. Born November 14, 1932 in Rochester, Texas to Willie Winfred Bass and Linnie Mae Cardwell Bass. His childhood years were spent on the farm in Walters, Oklahoma before settling in Duncan, Oklahoma. He attended Duncan High School and received additional education and vocational training in the United States Air Force where he was awarded the honor of Airman of the Month for the 7th Aviation Depot Squadron. He developed bronchiectasis after being stationed in Goose Bay Labrador, permanently scarring his lungs, forcing his move to the drier climate of Arizona. In Tucson, Arizona Travis started his lifelong career in the air conditioning and heating service industry. It was here that he started Travis Bass Air Conditioning Company in 1971. He successfully owned and operated the business for 38 years until finally retiring at the age of 75. He built a company he was proud of and believed that's what success was all about. He married Truline Barton on June 8, 1950 and they had a daughter, Pamela Jean and a son, Troy Don. On March 27, 1960 he married Shirley Dove, the love of his life and his wife of almost 60 years, together they raised their daughter Shirland Jo. Throughout his life Travis and his wife enjoyed many activities in the Tucson area including square dancing, golfing, traveling, watching the University of Arizona basketball and softball games and spending time with friends and family. Travis will always be remembered as being kind and having a quick sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Winfred Eugene Bass, and his son Troy Don. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his daughters, Pamela and Shirland and his younger brother Alton Lee Bass along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday August 10, 2019 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Don Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan, Oklahoma.
