Garland L. Bass
BASS, Garland L. "Sam" 77, passed away at home with his family. He was born in McComb, OH on December 30th, 1938 to Vera and Ivor Bass. He is survived by his wife, Susan, daughter Joetta (Mark and his children) of Columbus OH, son John Bass (Tiffany and her children), daughter Amber (Mike) Barker all of Springfield and his two grandchildren, who lit up his world. Special to him were his sisters-in-law, Kathleen Friedman, Cynthia Dunlevy, Virginia Flanagan, Sandra Bass, Sue Heard, Ruth Larson and his many nieces and nephews.
His parents and brothers George and Gary predeceased him.
Sam was a retired Railroad Signal Maintainer having worked for the DT&I, Grand Trunk Western and Canadian National railroads and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen Union. He was very active in his Masonic life having served as Master of his lodge, and in the various York Rite bodies. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and other Masonic organizations. He will be remembered for the active roles he played and the many dinners he cooked. Sam also was active in youth football, the former DT&I RR Credit Union Board, the Lutheran Church in the various places he lived, and the activities of his family. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and marksman in skeet competitions.
A gathering of remembrance will be held on Friday, January 22nd at the Springfield Masonic Temple, 125 W High St. beginning at 3:00. A service of remembrance will be held at 5:00.
