      Age 98, of Roseville, formerly of Saint Paul
      Died Friday, July 2, 2021, surrounded by his family, by whom he was most dearly loved. They all knew the feeling was 100% mutual.
      Born December 4, 1922, in Louisburg, North Carolina, Clarence began preaching the gospel as a teenager and has been preaching and teaching ever since. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He received a BA and two MA degrees from Wheaton College and a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh. Clarence had a passion to share his love of and knowledge of theology, and in 1955, he began his 33-year career as professor of theology at Bethel Seminary.
      He authored books and scholarly papers on theology, was a visiting professor at several seminaries around the world, and influenced generations of students and pastors in theology, social ethics, and mission outreach. He had an unending and driving passion for world missions and served as the chairman of the Board of World Missions of the Baptist General Conference (now Converge) for 12 years. As a tour leader (Inspirational Tours), he was awarded the ITN Quarto Mondo award for travel to over ¼ the world?s 195 nations. He was known for his giant heart for the underprivileged and was one of the founding members of Community Dental Care, a 501(c)(3) clinic that treats disadvantaged patients, serving on its Board of Directors for over 15 years. His love for and extensive experience in traveling led him to volunteer at Travelers Assistance at the MSP airport for over 20 years. He found great satisfaction in helping international travelers navigate their way in a foreign atmosphere. He was greatly loved by former students, missionaries, colleagues, and friends around the world.
      Clarence married his wonderful wife/soulmate Doris (nee Schneider) June 18, 1950. They were blessed with nearly 50 years until her death in 1999. Clarence was also preceded in death by five siblings, William Bass, Louise Wood, Thomas Bass, Charles Bass, and James Bass. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia Bradsher and Francis Hite; two children, Carolyn Bass and David (Joanne) Bass; six grandchildren, Nichole (Dole) McVeigh, Michele (Wangrai) Ngonamai, Monica Bass, Daniel Bass, Natalea (Benjamin) Peck, Katharine Bass; and four great grandchildren.
      A visitation will be held on Friday, July 16 from 4?8 PM at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL Funeral Home (536 Snelling Ave. N., St. Paul). The funeral service will be Saturday, July 17 at 11 AM at Central Baptist Church (420 Roy St. N., St. Paul) with refreshments following. Live stream available at CentralBaptistChurch.com. Internment at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Foundation.
