- Former Wellington Man Killed
Wellington ? Injuries received in a Saturday night auto smash-up near Mansfield yesterday morning proved fatal to Horace G. Bassett, 37, former Wellington resident.
Mr. Bassett, who had been working as a painter in Jackson, Michigan, died at Mansfield General hospital several hours after the accident in which the car he was driving crashed into a utility pole on Rt. 30-S about five miles west of Mansfield at 10:20 p.m., Saturday.
Death was attributed to internal injuries.
He apparently lost control of the car in rounding a curve, State Highway Patrol officials reported.
Mr. Bassett formerly worked in Elyria as a tree surgeon.
Enroute to Wellington
The victim had been at Galilee for a two-week vacation, and was to return to Wellington to pay a final vacation visit to relatives there when the fatal crash occurred.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, two daughters Sheryl Ann of Shaker Heights and Sandra Jean of Concord, Tenn.; a son Larry Gilbert, Concord, Tenn.; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Horace Bassett, Wellington; a sister Mrs. Howard Worcester, Wellington; and grandmothers Mrs. D.J. Nelson and Mrs. Gertrude Peabody, both of Wellington.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday from the Curtis-Truman Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Brown of the Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
