Charlie A. Bassett
Charlie A. Bassett, 64, of 1319 Princeton Ave., Princeton, died shortly after being admitted to a Princeton hospital Friday morning.
He was a retired chief cook for the Mercer County Jail in Princeton; a member of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Bekcly, Princeton Lodge No. 134 AF & AM, the Princeton Chapter No. 44 Royal Arch Mason, Bluefield Commandery NO. 19 of Knights Templar, the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston, and the mErcer Veterans Council No. 1, Princeton.
a veteran of the U.S. Army, he had lived in Princeton since 1934, and before that in Beckley.
Born in Kefier, Lebanon, on Jan. 12, 1907, he was a son of Mrs. Ruginia Tweel Bassett, of Keifer, who survives, and of the late Assid Bassett.
He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian May Hedrick Bassett, Princeton; two sons, Charles Bassett, Richmond Va. and Nicholas Bassett, Princeton; one stepson. S. Sgt. Jeon T Heaton with the U.S. Air Force in San Bernardino, Calif.; five brothers, Kelo Bassett, Huntington, Sammy Bassett, Beckley, Ramaz Bassett, Prince Edward Isle, Canada, Beig Bassett, Kefier, Lebanon, and Fayes Bassett, South Africa; one sister, Mrs. Namia Rahall, Kefier, Lebanon.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Seaver Funeral Home Chapel, Princeton, with Fr. Zacharia Nasr officiating. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Mausoleum, Princeton.
Members of the Mercer County Veterans Council will serve as pallbearers. The trisigiion will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
