      George Stanley Bass

After a courageous battle with Parkinson's, George Stanley Bass (Stan), 84, passed away on March 7, 2022 in his home in Baton Rouge, LA. Stan was born in Winnfield, LA on March 20, 1937 and graduated from Winnfield High School in 1956. He joined the US Navy and served active duty with Fighter Squadron 114. During this time, he served on aircraft carrier USS Kittyhawk and saw two tours of duty in Vietnam. After leaving active duty in 1967, he remained in the US Naval Reserve until he retired in 1989 as Command Senior Chief of Patrol Squadron 94 at the Naval Air Station in New Orleans. Retiring from IMC Agrico (Freeport McMoran) in 1997, Stan quickly endeared himself to friends all over Baton Rouge as the Go-To-Man for any home problems, from rewiring and putting in recessed lighting to hanging pictures. During his more than 50 years in Baton Rouge, Stan had a gift for making everyone feel like family. He was always there to lend a helping hand or listening ear and was a true friend and mentor to many. Stan was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church with strong faith and unwavering integrity. Stan loved sports, especially LSU baseball; trips with his wife, Mary Lee, and his brother, Haywood and friend Barbara; his dog Ginny; crossword puzzles; eating at Franks Restaurant and especially enjoyed his wonderful grandchildren. Stan is survived by wife and best friend, Mary Lee McClimans Bass; daughters, Theresa Bass McFalls (Larry) and Tracy Bass; stepchildren, Mike Crow (Karen) and Ellen Crow Armstrong (Eric); his older brother Haywood Bass; and his loving grandchildren Addison Armstrong Nunez (Jorge), Elizabeth Ryan Armstrong, Michael Crow, Matthew Crow and Christopher Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burney O. Bass and Serena Martin Bass and his sister, Lesker Bass Bates. The family would like to thank Stan's long-term caregiver and friend, Tammi Nicholas, and everyone at St. Joseph's Hospice who helped take such good care of him. Visitation will be at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Saturday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stan's memory to Wounded Warrios at woundedwarriorproject.org or by mail at P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675 or St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
