William Robert “Bill” Bassett (Picture included)
November 29, 1927 to April 7, 2010, age 82. Bill was a third generation Sonoma County resident; son of Elva Roberts Bassett and William Theodore Bassett of Tomales, settling in 1957 with his family in Sebastopol. Over his lifetime Bill worked as a logger, master Diesel Mechanic, Farmer, Tractor dealer/repairman, Firewood purveyor, Magneto magician, Hunter and Fisherman. Leaves wife of 61 years, Barbara Jean of Sebastopol; brother John T. Bassett (Susan) of Port Hadlock, WA; daughters Geri West (Richard Bailey), Judi Goodin (Stephen), Jeanne Fernandes (Joe) of Sebastopol; son, Bill Bassett (Janel) of Springdale, UT; as well as, Bobby Becucci of Mill Valley and Tom Schamp of Sebastopol. Six well-loved grandchildren: Andrew (Catherine) and Ethan West, Julie and Jayson Fernandes, Sarah and Paul Goodin and numerous Johnson, Winsby and Roberts cousins. Family was central to Bill's life. He and Barbara traveled across the US and Europe to be with their family for weddings, graduations and other special events. He was an avid outdoorsman, known for his mule and horse pack trips to the Marble Mountains, Yolo Bollies and Southern Utah to live the cowboy life. Cowboy Bill was proud of his 32 year-long fellowship with the friends of Bill W. A potluck celebration of his life will be held at the Campobello Recovery & Treatment Center, 3250 Guerneville Road, Santa Rosa on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tomales Community Museum or Hanna Boys Center.
