Walter Haldane Bass
Walter Haldane Bass of South Boston, passed away on February 4, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born in Halifax County on April 18, 1939 to the late William Moseley Bass and Adele Woodurn Bass. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Day Bass of sixty-two years.
Walter was a graduate of Elon University with a degree in Biology and Chemistry, and a minor in Music. He was employed as a bio-chemist with Reynolds-American tobacco Company for 32 years. Bass served as a medic in the US Army and was a member of American Legion Post 8, South Boston. He was a former member of the Richmond Jaycees, South Boston Rotary, Turbeville Ruritan, and the Board of Trustees for the Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation.
He enjoyed music and was known to be a great cook. For over thirty years as a hobby he restored numerous old properties in the Richmond fan district.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by sisters, Jewel Rosser (Jimmy) and Ann Burke (Carl). He was preceded in death by brothers, George Bass, Jacob Bass and William "Bill" Bass.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Davis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1 PM - 2 PM, at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.

South Boston - Mr. and Mrs. Mason Crum Day announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Lura, to Walter Haldane Bass III, son of Mrs. William Mosley Bass, all of South Boston, and the late Mr. Bass.
Miss Day was graduated from Elon College in North Carolina.
Mr. Bass is attending Elon College.
A June wedding is planned.
