James ?Jim? Herbert Bass
James Herbert "Jim" Bass died on Feb. 18, 2023, at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Waynesville.
He was born on Nov. 16, 1946, to the late Lt. Colonel Herbert Edward Bass, USAF, and Lola A. Bass in Ypsilanti, although Jim always said he was born in a suitcase somewhere over Michigan. He spent his childhood on Air Force bases across the US, until his father retired and returned to Edenton, North Carolina.
Jim graduated from UNC in 1969 and earned a graduate degree from NCSU in 1995. He worked in a variety of IT roles throughout his career, eventually becoming a specialist in computer compliance and validation in the pharmaceutical field.
He was a great adventurer and loved traveling the world. During every trip he managed to find some unusual or odd excursion which provided him with hilarious stories to share.
Jim is survived by his wife Clare Arthur Bass of Waynesville, his brother Bill Bass (Jo), daughters Casey Carnes (Craig) of Zebulon, Emily Parrish (Scott) of Cary, Jamie Bass (Tommy) of Edenton, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Bob Bass of Edenton.
