Douglas Allen Bass, 76, of Midland, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 14, 2022, at his home. He was born May 27, 1945, in Midland as one of eleven children born to the late Charles and Hattie (Grim) Bass. Douglas was a graduate of Breckenridge High School. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served in France during the Vietnam War. Douglas married the love of his life, the former Vivian Alexander, on October 17, 1969. Together they built their family home on 9 Mile and raised their two sons. He spent over 30 years as Head Operator at the Dry Tech Building for The Dow Chemical Company until his retirement. Douglas had a passion for hunting, fishing, gardening, baking his own pies, bee keeping with his sons, and above all else, his family. He also loved his dog, Kattie; and was a competitive card player, especially with his brothers, sisters, and his whole family. Other aspects of his personality were his Doug-isms that came from his unique sense of humor, his political discussions, casino trips with his family, and always looking out for his brothers and sisters.
Doug will be greatly missed by his wife Vivian of 53 years; children Alan (Patti) Bass and Nathan Bass; brothers and sisters Winona "Nub" Kenyon, Norris (Alice "Mickie") Bass, David (Sue) Bass, Wanda (Mike Wilson) Bass; sisters-in-law Alberta Bass and Reba Darden and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Eva Heminger, Charles Bass, Evelyn Bass, Beryl McClain, Lloyd Bass and Leroy and Shirley Bass.
Services for Douglas will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home 1200 West Wheeler Street with burial to take place in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Douglas's family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 18, 2022, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. as well as Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
