      Carl H. Bass Jr.

BASS, JR., CARL H., of Little Rock died Monday, March 21, 2005. Carls life was dedicated to his faith, family, profession and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne, of 44 years, his five children and one grandson: Sandi Dale and husband, Mike, of Kailua, Hawaii; Susan Hedberg and son, Chase of Plano, Texas; Sharon Bass of Little Rock, Arkansas; Stephen Bass of Irving, Texas; Stephanie Racop and husband, Russ, of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Mary Lou Norman, of Port Arthur, Texas; two nephews and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl, Sr., his mother, Louise, and his brother, Joe. Carl was born in Dyess, Arkansas and was a graduate of Lepanto High School and Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. His 34 1/2 year career was spent with the United States Department of Labor, Wage Hour Division, along with nine years of Labor Law consulting. Carl was known by all as the great communicator and the "answer man". He lived as he worked with integrity, honesty, excellence, patience, kindness and humor. He had a beloved wife, family and community that respected and honored him. His strong character and conviction of beliefs were known by all who were touched by him. Carl was involved throughout his life in church, school and community as School Board President, church lector, softball and baseball coach. He also volunteered his time for charitable organizations. A year and a half ago Carl began his final journey through life battling cancer. Gifted doctors, nurses and other medical professionals pursued it to the end. Carl's strength came from his greatest gifts - his faith, his devoted wife, his family and his friends. Thoughts and prayers for Carl allowed him to receive the greatest gift: time - to enjoy the warmth of a fathers loving embrace, the twinkle of his eye after a quick joke, and the strength that only a father can give in times of crisis. Carl stayed strong to the end. Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel (501-224-8300). The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at Cathedral of St. Andrew, 617 S. Louisiana, Little Rock. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Roller-Chenal Funeral Home 13801 Chenal Pky Little Rock, AR 501-224-8300.
