He was born December 31, 1906 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of the late John W. and Mary Archer Barris. He was a retired electrical technician for the former Wheeling Kitchen Equipment Co. and a Catholic. He was a member of Bridgeport Eagles Aerie 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma “Irene” Bass Barris; three daughters, Joanna Hoag, Judith Elaine Barris and Caroline Ann Barris; a sister, Madeline Barris. Surviving are two sons, John W. Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska, and Robert of Martins Ferry; three daughters, Shirley Smith of Bridgeport, Eleanor Marventino of Detroit, Michigan, and Betty Lou Reuter of Gretna, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rod Kasler officiating. Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
