  Notes	Find-A-Grave Ellen Louise Smith was born on August 19, 1921 in Edmonds, Washington. She was a child of Walter Thomas and Catherine Marguerete (Leyda) Smith. Her sibling was Alta Marie Smith. Later, on April 21, 1943 at Seattle, Washington, Ellen enlisted into the Women's Army Corps, as a Aviation Cadet in the inactive reserves. Ellen served during World War II and eventually was honorably discharged as a Staff Sargeant. During which time Ellen met William Earl Bass. They were eventually married on March 20, 1952 at San Antonio, Texas. Together they had one child, Kathleen Louise Bass. At the age of eighty-six, on May 30, 2008, Ellen passed away.
