      Flossie Bassett

      Flossie Bassett, 86, of Auburn, died yesterday in Betz Nursing Home. She was the widow of Virgil Sr. Surviving are a daughter, Dessie Biddle of Dousman, Wis.; sons, Virgil Jr. and Merle, both of Auburn, and Richard of Kendalville; brother, Judson Keeler of Kendalville; nine grandchildrdn; and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. tomorrow in McComb, Dilgard & Cline Funeral Home, Auburn, where calling is 2 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in St. Joe Cemetery. Preferred memorials are gifts to Auburn Church of Christ.

      Virgil and Flossie Bassett have been life long residents of DeKalb County, living in Auburn and Concord Township. Virgil's aprents, John Edward and Lonnie Bassett lived in Concord Township where they owned a farm and farmed for a living. Flossie's parents, William & Daisy Keller also lived in Concord Township, and like John & Lonnie Bassett, farmed the land they lived on.
      On 10 October 1927, Virgil Bassett and Flossie Keeler were married and took up housekeeping on North Street in Auburn. While they lived in Aubrn, both Virgil and Flossie worked for the Auburn Automobile Company. They worked for the Auburn until 1933, when the plant was closed down.
      When the Auburn Automobile company closed down, Virgil and Flossie purchased a farm in Concord Township and farmed the land until 1969 when they retired and moved back to Auburn. Virgil and Flossie had four children all of howm have their own families today.
      In 1928, Virgil Jr. was born and today is owner/operator of Bassett Office Supply with the rest of his family. Merle Bassett was born in 1932 and is the owner/operator of Bassett Electric Motor Repair in Auburn. In 1933, Dessie (Bassett) Biddle was born and now lives in Kendallville and is working for the Noble County Cable Company.
      One of the activities that Virgil and Flossie participated in was the Auburn Grange. Virgil Bassett died in 1971 and is buried along with his family in St. Joe. Flossie currently resides in Auburn.
