John was born the son of Edwin and Rose (Bassett) Mitchell on August 23, 1936, in Lake Orion, Michigan. He graduated from Lapeer High School and attended Michigan State University. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Iva Lee Mitchell, his parents Edwin and Rose Mitchell, brother George Mitchell, niece Suzan Tompkins and great-granddaughter AvaLynn. John is survived by his children Pamela Davis, J. Patrick (Teresa) Mitchell, grandchildren Zachary Davis, Aleeha Davis, Samantha Mithell, Emily Mitchell, sister Ruth (Bill) Tomkins, great-grandchildren McKinley Weeks, Octayvia Weeks, Timothy Steeby and soon to be born Mason Mitchell. Respecting John s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held.
