Marion Irvin Bass Sr.
DAPHNE -- Marion Irvin Bass Sr., 80, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at a local health-care facility. He was a native Enid, Okla., and a resident of Daphne.
Bass was a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile. He went on to attend the Merchant Marine Academy and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Newark College. He was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II.
He retired from Monsanto Co. in Fernwood, N.J., in 1970 and from the Baldwin County Public School System in 1998. Bass was a member and deacon of Lagoon Baptist Church in Gulf Shores for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Jane Bass, and a daughter, Linda Bass Lamont, both of Daphne; two sons, Darrell Elmer Bass of Orange Park, Fla., and Marion Irvin Bass Jr. of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two brothers, Jack E. Bass of Moss Point, Miss., and Elmer E. Bass of Lake Lure, N.C.; a sister, Rosemary Conger of Pell City; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at Lagoon Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Fred Freeman.
Burial will take place at Miller Memorial Cemetery in Gulf Shores.
The family suggests that memorials be made to The Gideons International through Lagoon Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.
