Obituary
BASS ? Mrs. Lavinia S. Bass, wife of G.W. Bass, of Hancock county, Georgia, died July 1st 1878, aged fifty-six year five months and twenty-six days. She was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church at Bethel, Hancock county, by Elder Edwin Thomas, in her fifteenth year, and lived a consistent member of the church more than fifty years.
Thirty-four years she was a great sufferer. She did not complain at the afflicting hand of Providence.. But was firmly persuaded that her afflictions were for her final good. She was humble and unpretending in her course, yet always ready to point the earnest seeker to Jesus, and do all in her power to advance the Master?s kingdom on earth. She was faithful in all the relations of life, and endowed with those traits of character which constituted her, a truly great and noble woman.
The proximity in which she has so long lived with Jesus, had so magnified and perfected her love, as that she had no fears of death, but could welcome it as a sweet messenger to take her to that rest that remaineth to the people of God. N.B.B.
