      Sidney Bass is Buried at Terrell
      September 14 - Sidney Bass, 85 years old, died at his home here last night after a lingering illness. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with interment in Oakland Cemetery. The twelve grandsons of decedent served as active pallbearers.
      Sidney Bass was born near Natchez, Mississippi, September 3, 1841, the son of Henry J. Bass. He received his earlier education at the Yale Prepatory school in Stamford, Connecticut, later graduating from Centeneary College with a B.S. degree.

      Former Citizen Dies In Terrell At Ripe Age
      Sidney Bass
      Terrell, Texas, September 13 - Sidney Bass, resident of Terrell for more than fifty years, died Monday night following a long illness. Mr. Bass was born near Natches, Mississippi, September 3, 1841, the son of Henry J. Bass. He received his early education at Stamford, Connecticut, in the Yale Preparatory School, and was graduated from Centenary College in 1860. Following his graduation the Civil War broke out and he volunteered his services, being Captain of Company B, Twenty-fifth Louisiana Infantry. He served in Walthall’s Brigade and participated in the Battles of Shiloh, Perryville, Jurfreesboro, Chickamauga and the battles around Atlanta.
      Returning from the war, he moved to Texas, locating in Sulpher Springs, where he engaged in the drug business for a term of years before moving to Terrell in 1876 where he and his brother, John Bass, entered the drug business. In 1914 he sold out to his son, S.J. Bass, who now operates the business.
      Mr. Bass was married November 1, 1860, to Miss Laura Brigers of Natches, Mississippi, who died in 1902.
      The following children survive; Sidney J. Bass, former prison commissioner and president of the Bass Drug Company of this city; T.B. Bass, superintendent of the Abilene State Hospital; Mrs. J.E. Peyton of Shreveport, Louisiana; Mrs. Wyne Smith of Denton, Mrs. J.P. Elliott and Mrs. H. Galbraith of this city.
      He was a lifelong Methodist and helped to found that church in this city. For twelve years he was a member of the Methodist book committee and was laregely instrumental in the establishment of the Methodist Publishing House in Dallas. He was one of the founders of the North Texas College, now the Texas Military College of this city.
