      TERRELL, Texas, Feb. 14. ? Sidney J. Bass, 80, pioneer druggist, business and civic leader, and a resident of Terrell more than half a century, died Saturday.
      Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Terrell Methodist Church with the Rev. L. B. Trone, pastor, and the Rev. Benjamin Bean, Episcopal rector, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Memorial Park.
      Eldest child of Sidney and Adaline Brigers Bass, he was born in Madison Parish, La., and his early life was spent in Ruston, La., and Sulphur Springs, where he attended private school. He came to Terrell with his parents in 1876 and completed his common school education here, working between sessions in the Bass Bros. Drugstore, which was established by his father and uncle, Dr. John H. Bass.
      Associated With Father.
      Later he was graduated from a pharmacy school in St. Louis, returning to work in the store. In 1884 he took charge of a branch store in Paris, later managed a second branch in Hillsboro.
      When the Bass Bros. partnership was dissolved in 1888, Mr. Bass associated himself with his father in the drug business here, and had resided here since, except for four years at Huntsville, when he served as chairman of the State Prison Board by appointment of Gov. O.B. Colquitt. Upon accepting the appointment in 1913, he relinquished the chairmanship of the State Board of Pharmacy.
      In 1917 he returned to Terrell and assumed supervision of the Bass store, remaining active until a few weeks before when he turned the business over to his sons, Allen B. and T.T. Bass.
      Leader In Business.
      He built the Iris Theater here and helped organize the Terrell Building & Loan Association, of which he was vice-president. He had served as president of the First National Bank at one time.
      A devout member of the Methodist Church, he was a steward and trustee at the time of his death.
      Survivors include his wife, the former Leda Alice Allen, and the following children: Mrs. Paul Sheppard of San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. John Thomason of Washington, and his two sons.
