Herbert A. Bass
The body of Herbert A. Bass, a native of Morgan City who died in Jennings Saturday, August 15, was brought here Sunday afternoon for interment. A large cortege attended the services at the Morgan City cemetery which were conducted by Rev. Stanley McLean of the Methodist Church. Death followed a long period of illness and suffering.
Herbert A. Bass, aged 53 years, was born in this city. As a young man, he was employed in the grocery business which was owned by his father, Mr. Edgar Bass. He left Morgan City about twenty-five years ago for Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was engaged in business until a few months ago when his health demanded his retirement from active affairs. He spent the remainder of his life in Morgan City, New Orleans and a few days before his death he was removed to Jennings, La., to the home of his brother, Lewis J. Bass.
He is survived by three brothers, Lewis J. Bass and Joseph E. Bass, Morgan City, and Sam Nye Bass, of New Orleans; three sisters, Mrs. Del Thorton, New Orleans; Mrs. Winn Meredith, Eureka, Ca., and Mrs. G. Hawes, Albuquerque, N.M.
The large attendance at the interment services and the mound of floral tributes testified to the high esteem in which Herbert A. Bass was held in this city. His bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
