A memorial service will be held Monday for veteran Victoria
obstetrician Dr. Lloyd Bassett.
Bassett, 78, died this week after a brief illness. The service will be
held at 12:30 p.m. in the University of Victoria chapel.
Bassett began his medical career in Victoria in 1937. During the
Second World War, he served with the Canadian Armed Forces medical corps and
spent five years overseas.
He returned to the city and his practice in 1947, specializi
obstetrics and gynecology.
In his 40-year career, Bassett delivered more than 10,000 babies.
Bassett served as chief of staff at both Royal Jubilee and Victoria
General hospitals and was a former president of the Victoria Medical Society.
