Warriner L. ?Yonnie? Bass
BASS, Mr. Warriner L. "Yonnie," 93, of Crewe, Va., the son of Willis Lee and Amanda K. Bass, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mildred Kelley Bass; a daughter, Amy B. Thornton (Wayne) of Stuarts Draft; two sons, Warriner L. Bass II of Waverly and Mark Scott Bass (Alison) of Richmond; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Thornton, Anna Bass, Moira Bass, Julia Bass and Susan K. Bass. Warriner was predeceased by two brothers, Lynwood L. Bass and Claude A. Bass; and a grandson, Timothy Thornton. Warriner was a Navy veteran, having served in WWII, and retired from Civil Service, where he worked in small arms. In his youth, he played baseball in the New York Yankee Farm System. He was an avid golfer and won several tournaments and also enjoyed hunting and competitive shooting. He was a member of Crewe Baptist Church and was a former deacon. A memorial service will be private and burial will be at a later date. Joseph McMillian Funeral Home & Crematories, Blackstone, Va., is assisting the family.
