Archie Bass
Archie Bass, 90, of Pinola died January 15, 2008, at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 17, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services in Hazlehurst handled arrangements.
Mr. Bass was a native and lifelong resident of Simpson County and the Bridgeport area. He graduated from New Hebron High School in 1935. In 1936 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. Mr. Bass was a supervisor at Copiah Manufacturing Lumber Company in Hazlehurst most of his life. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he was church treasurer for 30 years, an ordained deacon for over 40 years, and served in many areas of church activity.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Russell Bass, and two sons, Archie (Jimmy) Bass, Jr. and Noel Bass.
He is survived by daughter Vicki Ramsey and husband Herbert of Hazlehurst; grandchildren David Bass and wife Lisa, Steve Bass and wife Ginger, Sherri Bass Harlan and husband Harley, and Shanna Bass Rutland and husband Walter; and eight great-grandchildren.
