Jeremiah S. Bass

Jeremiah S. Bass - Born January 18, 1925 in East Walpole, Massachusetts, to Governor and Mrs. Robert P. Bass, died May 5, 2009. Jeremiah spent much of his youth at their Arizona residence, The Deep Well Ranch, and attended the Arizona Desert School for Boys. Pack trips to hunt mountain lions and playing polo were among his fondest memories. The family were patrons of Dr. Cummings and Jeremiah spent summers on archaeological excavations in northern Arizona. Jeremiah returned east to attend Middlesex Academy prior to entering the Army Air Corp in 1943. He graduated from Babson College and joined the New Hampshire State Police. In 1955 Jeremiah moved back to Arizona, purchased land against the Rincon Mountains and went into the ranching business; grazing cattle in Mexico with round-ups to Arizona. He owned numerous race horses and was frequently photographed in the Winner's Circle in Arizona, California, Nevada and New Mexico. He owned a restaurant as well as a construction company, but his passion was prospecting. He camped and explored every mountain or canyon that he could get to throughout his life. Jeremiah was a wonderful father and is survived by four children, six grandchildren and two brothers who will dearly miss him.
