Mr. Bass, Bertie County native, worked for Norfolk Veneer Co. He was a former member of Piney Wood Chapel in Bertie County. Survivors include his mother, Viola W. Bass; three sisters, Dorothy C. Oliver, Ruth C. Johnson and Delores B. Oliver; and a brother, Melvin bass, all of Portsmouth. The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Fisher Funeral Home by the Rev. C.J. Freeman. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. today and at 2314 Staunton Ave.
