E. Norman Bassett (1930-2010) (Picture included)
Edward Norman Bassett, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away unexpectedly at his dream home in Garden City on Dec. 13, 2010. Norman was born in Wellsville, Utah, to Edward W. Bassett and Edna Hall Bassett on Feb. 23,1930. He attended Wellsville schools, South Cache High School and Utah State University. Norman married his childhood sweetheart Cleta Robinson Bassett in the Logan LDS Temple on Dec. 1, 1948. They cherished 62 years of marriage together. Five children were born to this union, Vicky (Brent Veates, Blake (Laurie) Bassett, Zane Ray (Teresa) Bassett, Robert (Debra) Bassett and Wende (deceased)(Van) Miller. They have 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildern. Norman has one Iiving sister, Carol Sue (Gary) Stauffer, and one deceased brother, Dee Clayton (Dian) Bassett.
Norman was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions in the church. He served faithfully and with great sacrifice in the Western Canadian Mission. Having accepted this call, he left behind his sweetheart to care for his two oldest children. This was a challenge, but he felt very blessed because of it. One of his most beloved callings was when he was an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple. This calling came to him at a time in his life when it was most precious and appreciated. This position he held for three years. In his earlier years he was a Seventy in the Logan Stake. During this time he fulfilled three stake missions and was a counselor in the Singles Branch at USU.
After serving in the mission field, Norman owned and operated a successful mink ranch. Later he worked 15 years for Ellis Equipment Company in Logan. He retired after 17 years from Thiokol Chemical Company as a subcontract administrator in procurement. After his retirement he took correspondence classes and became certified in clock repair and restoration. Through this he acquired many close friendships.
Norman was an avid reader. He was very proud of his library, and he truly read almost every one of his books passionately. Norman loved good music.
Norman and Cleta lived in Logan, North Ogden, Smithfield, and then moved to their dream home in Garden City, Utah.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel under the direction of Bishop Bryce Huefner of Garden City. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary and prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery.
