Melissa Bass Brinson, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL.
Melissa Brinson was born on August 17, 1956, to Theron Hardee Bass and Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Bass (Bullock) in Live Oak, FL. Melissa spent her formative years growing up on a farm with her family, learning the value of hard work and dedication to the people that she loved. Helping her daddy on the farm, tagging along with her older siblings Theron Jr and Kathy, and taking care of her younger brother "Bull" shaped Melissa into the person she would become. She graduated from Florida State University in 1980 with a degree in Home Economics and Early Childhood Development, which led to her career as a teacher in the Suwannee County School System for 35 years.
Melissa had a passion for others above all else. She loved her husband, Terry, her son, T.J., daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandchildren Mariana and Carter, and all of the countless students that she taught through the years in service to education and her community. It cannot be overstated the lives she touched and the hearts she nurtured. The pinnacle of her career came as she was a finalist for State Teacher of the Year in 2006.
She was a devout Christian. She attended church faithfully and read her bible several hours every day. She was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, and she opened her heart and home to many people over the years and will be sorely missed. She left our world the same way she lived her life: by giving. Melissa donated her organs and was able to save several lives before passing. She was surely a miraculous woman.
She was preceded in death by her father Theron, mother Betty, and brother Cliff. She is survived by her husband Terry; son T.J. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth; grandchildren Mariana and Carter; brother Theron (Kathy) of Hobe Sound, FL; sister Kathy (Donald), of Richmond, VA; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Antioch Baptist Church at 5203 CR 795, Live Oak, FL 32060, at 11:00 a.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, those that wish to honor Melissa make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Suwannee County Police Athletic League. There will be a visitation held on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Daniels Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 pm.
