He was born May 7, 1917, in Lawrence County to Oscar Whitt Bass and Alice Sims Bass. He retired in 1981 from the research department at Solutia. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Bass; one daughter, Jance Ryan Deerman of Birmingham; two brothers, Tennis Bass of Hillsboro and Layton Bass of San Antonia; and one sister, Mary Roberts of Hillsboro.
