Richard Copeland Bassett
Richard Copeland Bassett (Uncle)
Age 77, of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania passed away on March 16, 2025 after battling a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Bassett Jr. and Myrtle E Bassett (Copeland), as well as a sister, Doris A. Brown. He leaves behind his beloved sister Norma J. Bassett. He was the proud Uncle of Daryl T. Brown (Jamie), Daniel F. Walzer Jr. (Christine) and Jennifer J. Walzer, Great Uncle of Daryl Brown, Angie Platos, Brandi Arndt, Mackenzie Matlack, and Owen Walzer, as well as many Great-Great nieces and nephews.
Rich served in Thailand during the Vietnam War, returned home and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He would continue on and earn a Masters in Education. A retiree, he spent his career as a teacher for Pittsburgh Public Schools, where he was beloved by students and staff alike. Rich had a passion for both streetcars and animals, and he volunteered much of his time with Animal Friends and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. He will be dearly missed by his family and his friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Animal Friends and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the D'Alessandro Funeral Home & Crematory Ltd; 4522 Butler Street Pittsburgh, PA, 15201. Interment is private.
