Larry Gene Bass
Larry Gene Bass, 81, of Prairie City, OR, put on his metaphorical shoes and walked out of this realm on August 10, 2025, leaving behind years of unopened or unused holiday gifts from his family.
Larry was born to Benjamin Harvey Bass and Madalyn Dillon on October 4, 1943, in Alturas, CA. In his teens, Larry began working for Keith and Mary Sherer at the local gas station in Canby, CA, and was quickly integrated into the Sherer family, may we bless their hearts. Amongst the Sherer family, Larry met a tiny spitfire named Barbara Bowen, whom he married on August 10, 1961, in Reno, NV. He and the overly patient Barbara remained married for 64 years. In 1962, Larry and Barbara had their first son, Mike, who was soon followed by their youngest son, Dennis, in 1964. We all continue to be amazed that everyone made it out with any sanity intact.
Larry would spend his career as "The Beer Man" working for Gardner Enterprises, retiring after nearly 40 years. He was known and loved throughout the community, from coaching little league, to dealing cards at local establishments (and other unmentionables).
Larry loved his family, though it's possible he loved fishing, hunting, and spending time at elk camp more. Either way, he will forever be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his spouse, Barbara Bass; sons, Mike (Anna) Bass, Dennis Bass, Ok(ish); grandchildren, Kayln (Devin) Burril, Michael (Jordan) Bass; his most precious grandchild, Hanna Bass, and great-grandchildren, Briar Burril, Westin, and Miles Bass.
A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Prairie City Cemetery, followed by a reception at Depot Park. Driskill Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
