Vivian Bass
Vivian Bernheim Bass, 90, of Live Oak, Florida, died peacefully at home on January 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. True to the meaning of her name - "full of life" - Vivian was a faith-filled and open-hearted woman whose adventurous spirit, sharp wit, and steady courage brightened the lives of all she met.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, Vivian's life was significantly shaped by two of her greatest passions - her faith in God and her love of music. Steadfast in her belief in God's grace and goodness, she lived her faith with humility and generosity, sharing her profound love for Jesus with family, friends, and her deeply-cherished church community.
A gifted musician from a young age, Vivian played multiple instruments, sang in the choir, and majored in music at Florida State University. For many years, she nurtured young musicians as a devoted piano teacher and offered her gifts as organist for her beloved St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Live Oak, Florida.
One of Vivian's greatest adventures was a solo journey from Florida to Okinawa to marry her high school sweetheart, Thomas "Buddy" Bass, and begin a life together that would span nearly 60 years. As the wife of an Air Force pilot, Vivian embraced each new assignment with grace and good humor. The pair eventually settled in Live Oak, Florida, the place they had long considered home.
She loved golfing, waterskiing, reading mysteries and history, doing crosswords in ink, traveling across the country and abroad, and being active in choir and church retreats. She was a a devoted Seminole and loved cheering them on loudly and proudly, Her favorite activity by far, however, was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
She was filled with joyful anticipation for a heavenly reunion with her parents, Oren and Clementine (Perry) Bernheim; her infant son, William Andrew; her beloved husband, Buddy; and her brother, John T. Bernheim. She is survived by three children, Teresa Vidrine (Grant), Tom Bass (Betsy), and Peri Pinto (Keith); nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Gustafson; and her sisters-in-law, Betty
Bernheim and Wanda Bass.
There will be a visitation with her family and friends on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 5-7pm at Daniels Funeral Home, Live Oak, FL. A service to celebrate Vivian's life will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Luke's Episcopal Church Food Pantry or the St. Luke's Memorial Fund.
